Prepare for Portland's premier spring event, a blend of sport and style featuring fashion, mint juleps, roses, racing, and dancing. Why
A reason to get dressed up with friends and have an incredible time! Who doesn’t love a great day party featuring: the ornate beautiful hats, sun dresses, seersucker suits, garlands of roses, mint juleps, the horse action, bow ties, a splash of makers, my old Kentucky Home, cigars, champagne, outdoor dance floor, indoor dance floor and the greatest two minutes in sports!

Is there a dress code?
Proper Derby attire is strongly encouraged. Please view our Fashion Gallery of images on the website to see how guests come dressed for the event. It’s a reason to get dressed up! “Talk Derby to me” as they say, giddy up!
Prizes will be awarded for best-dressed lady, gentleman and couple.
How and when did this event start?
The event kicked off as a house party in 2004, expanding over the years through bars and venues, landing at The Redd after a four-year Covid pause. Spring 2023 celebrated its triumphant 16th comeback, making this year's the 17th iconic installment in Portland.
Is this a 21+ Over event?
Yes, it is. - ID is required at the door for entry.
What security measures will be taken to ensure safety?
A professional security team will be monitoring the event along with a dedicated team of “Sober Rovers” to ensure balance and healthy party behaviors.
I’ve heard this is the largest Derby party in North America outside of Churchill Downs, is that correct?
We know this is the largest Derby party certainly on the west coast. There is a great experience in Denver, CO that rivals our size.

Cornhole, giant jenga, photo booth, food carts, two DJs, etc.
How will the race be featured at the event?
We're excited to announce that the thrilling last 2 minutes of the race will be showcased on a gigantic screen, ensuring everyone gets a front-row experience to the heart-pounding finale!

Will there be food there?
Absolutely! We're excited to announce that three gourmet food carts, Tamale Boy, Pidgin Hole, and Alchemy Sandwiches, will be ready to serve a variety of tasty options.
